Trial over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi underway in Turkey

The trial of 20 Saudi nationals over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has begun in Turkey.

The 59-year-old – a fierce critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – died at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul almost two years ago.

Turkish officials said his body was dismembered but his remains were never found.

The accused are on trial “in-absentia” while a delegate from the UN called for international pressure on the Saudi Arabian government.
