As a Surgical Pathology Technician working in the Pathology Frozen Section Lab, you will be responsible for handling a high volume of fresh tissue specimens while maintaining sample integrity and patient identification. Additional responsibilities include:
- Actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives
- Performing a variety of technical procedures on patient tissue including frozen section techniques that result in the creation of microscopic slides that are reviewed by a pathologist while the patient is under anesthesia in the operating room
- Managing multiple time sensitive clinical and research studies at various stages of processing
- Creating touch prep or smear slides and performing staining of prepared fresh cytology specimens
- Applying medical terminology and surgical pathology knowledge to provide overall operational support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities
*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and 2 years relevant experience or associate degree.
Additional Qualifications
- Associates degree preferred
- Medical terminology preferred
- Understanding of anatomy preferred.
- In the absence of a college degree, consideration will be given to an individual with significant working experience in a laboratory setting, which has provided a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment and safety.

$22.27 – $31.91 per hour; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
