Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations of assigned work unit/shop, plans, organizes, supervises, and coordinates the linen management activities of employees within the department of Environmental Services at the different SEMN Health System Locations. 

Supervision and Operational Activities: Overseeing activities within Distribution, Linen Distribution, Procedural Linen Area. This includes managing workflow, staffing, and functions related to the collection, receipt, and linen exchange carts.

Team Management: Effectively directing and monitoring technicians, transporters, and handlers to consistently meet patient needs.

Collaboration: Working with Education and Development to provide orientation and training.

Standardizing Processes: Assisting in establishing and revising department processes and procedures

Personnel Actions: Participating in performance appraisals, corrective actions, and managing timecards.

Leadership Support: Assisting the Leadership in developing policies, procedures, quality assurance, education, process improvement, and managing assigned finances in compliance with standards outlined by Mayo Clinic and regulatory agencies. 

The supervisor is responsible for:

  • Mentoring, identifying and scheduling training needs/opportunities, planning work schedules, assigning duties, policy/system adherence, and monitoring the quality and timely completion of work. 
  • Assists employees with problems or with difficult customer service issues. 
  • Provides budgetary input, oversees the purchase of supplies and equipment, initiates service agreements and manages the work unit’s budgetary targets.
  • Communicates effectively with customers to coordinate and resolve problems before they become a crisis. 
  • Ensures compliance with all institutional and division policies/procedures. 
  • Continuously examines work processes and data to improve efficiencies, outcomes, and service. 
  • Regulates staffing in accordance with fluctuating workload. 
  • Directs and monitors workload to consistently meet patient/customer needs. 
  • Acting as the primary change agent for staff and is the voice of the customer. 
  • Collaborates with Quality Supervisor to ensure compliance with Quality Assurance program. 
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops team members and self to strengthen skills providing opportunities for professional growth. 
  • Provides orientation and training to new and current team members. 
  • Participates in various personnel actions including performance appraisals, corrective actions, and timecards. 
  • Participate in department committees, sub-committees, or task forces. 
  • Maintains compliance and knowledge of standards outlined by regulatory agencies (Joint Commission, OSHA, ERTKA, FDA, ADA, etc.) and job-related skills. Utilize and effectively interact with Division support resources.
  • Continuously seeks to improve management skills and practices.

This position is a combination of remote and onsite support work. Individual must live within driving distance to the Albert Lea, Red Wing, Cannon Falls, or Lake City Mayo Clinic Locations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business related field and 3 years’ experience supervising/leading diverse teams OR Associate’s degree in business related field and 5 years’ experience supervising/leading diverse teams OR High School diploma/GED and 7 years’ experience supervising/leading diverse teams. Bachelor’s degree in business related field preferred. 

Previous experience working with healthcare linen management is essential for this role.

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines. 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others. 
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel) in word processing, spreadsheet, and computer data entry skills are necessary.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical skills, ability to and resolve issues before they become a critical issue. 
  • Lean management and/or six sigma experience helpful.
  • Knowledge of reprocessing principles, quality assurance, inventory control, and continuous performance improvement concepts is preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical skills, written and oral communication skills and ability to meet project timelines.

Applicable certifications such as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CLLM (Certified Laundry and Linen Manager) are preferred but not required.

Compensation Detail

$77,001.60 – $115,564.80 / year. Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
