Job description: POSITION: Staff Payroll Specialist
LOCATION: San Diego, CA
COMPENSATION: $24 – $28/ hourPosition Summary: The role of the Staff Payroll Specialist is to ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time for both regularly scheduled bi-weekly payroll as well as commission monthly payroll.Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Process staff payroll for a staff of roughly 200 employees: Processes payroll each pay period for the Staff Payroll Manager’s review and approval. Additional payroll responsibilities include but are not limited to, manual check processing, assisting employees/management with time entry, audit/verification of data entered in payroll system by HR team, etc. Payroll is processed biweekly. Employees are paid every other Friday. The Company uses TempWorks to process payroll.
  • Regularly calculate quarterly, monthly and bi-weekly commissions: Calculates and prepares commission statements quarterly (Bottom Line commissions) monthly and bi-weekly (Direct Hire commissions) for the Staff Payroll Manager’s review and approval. The Payroll department calculates and pays staff monthly and bi-weekly commissions. Additional commission responsibilities include but are not limited to, form verification and entry in ATS, review with commissioned employees, distribution of statements to employees and management, etc.
  • Run payroll/commission reports and provide analysis where requested: Compensation is a very strategic component of the Company’s strategy. Payroll costs also represent a significant portion of the Company’s operating expense. As a result, from time to time management requests payroll reports and related analysis to support decision making.
  • Provide Biweekly reporting to Accounting: Responsible for preparing and submitting biweekly reporting to Accounting at the end of each biweekly payroll. The reports include but are not limited to: Check Register, Payroll Journal and Payroll Summary.
  • Respond to payroll related personnel requests: Responsible for receiving and making requested payroll changes. Management commonly requests payroll related changes. Payroll related changes include withholdings, compensation, and department allocations.
  • Provide recommendations to the Payroll Manager to improve the department: Have firsthand knowledge of how well the Company’s payroll function is working. Based on this knowledge, employee is expected to recommend improvements to the Staff Payroll Manager.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience with processing payroll.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with Excel v-lookups and pivot tables required.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects at one time.
