Job description: Summary:The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting key financial operations. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining the general ledger across multiple entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and conducting in-depth analysis of balance sheet accounts. The role also involves cash management, monthly closings, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. A detail-oriented and analytical approach is essential, as the Staff Accountant will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support investment accounting, reconciliation, and compliance efforts.Essential Duties:Investment Accounting & Reconciliation
- Monitor, record, and reconcile investment transactions, including purchases, sales, dividends, and interest.
- Maintain accurate records of securities, bonds, stocks, and other financial instruments, primarily mortgage-backed securities.
- Ensure proper valuation, classification, and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and tax accounting standards.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Evaluate investment performance, assessing returns, risks, and asset allocations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and tax reporting requirements for capital gains, dividends, and investment income.
Auditing, Internal Controls & External Coordination
- Collaborate with auditors to support accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard investment data and prevent errors or fraud.
- Liaise with custodians, brokers, and fund managers to verify investment data and maintain transparency.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in financial planning by providing investment-related projections.
- Support financial forecasting for investment income and capital gains.
- Stay updated on accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 9, ASC 320) and ensure investment accounting policies remain compliant.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited four-year institution.
- A minimum of one year of related experience in accounting; investment accounting preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel.
- Must be goal oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Yardi experience preferred but not required.
