Job description: Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Accounting or Finance. Two (2) years of full-time, finance related experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in automated financial management systems. Proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel to include use of advanced formulas. Experience in PeopleSoft or Oracle. Higher Education experience.Brief Description of Duties:
The Staff Accountant will use the knowledge of large scale Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) to independently deal with financial transactions between general ledger and sub-ledgers. This role involves independently identifying and resolving discrepancies, preparing financial and management reports, maintaining accurate financial records, and preparing and reconciling monthly financial reports for account holders. The Staff Accountant will have strong analytical skills and sound judgement in decision making. The Staff Accountant will have the ability to communicate effectively and provide financial guidance to internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Reconciliations and Troubleshooting:
  • Review and reconcile pass-through recharge accounts to ensure accurate transaction processing.
  • Identify and correct anomalies, working with relevant departments to prevent future discrepancies.
  • Adhere to Internal Control Procedures and obtain all approvals for transaction processing.
  • Analyze data for accuracy and make recommendations to management for improvement.
  • Cost and Recharge Accounting:
  • Assist departments in the development of conference and service center rates.
  • Maintain and distribute IFR rate related information.
  • Train and support the campus community on appropriate IFR policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential deficit recovery needs and communicate accordingly to campus leaders.
  • Data Maintenance & Analysis:
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain IFR accrual reporting.
  • Lead departments on IFR accrual reporting and analysis.
  • Work with VP offices and departments to correct inaccurate information.
  • Departmental Liaison:
  • Respond to departmental inquiries regarding reports and accounting transactions.
  • Provide direction and training to the campus community on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Chart of Account & Policy Maintenance:
  • Assist with the maintenance of all (COA) Chart of Accounts (SBAM, PeopleSoft, & SUNY,) including all level tables. (PS may include FSA, SBF and RF).
  • Ensure all COA documents are properly loaded to PeopleSoft.
  • Assist in the review and submission request to SUNY for new accounts and account changes.
  • Assist with ERAS Policy maintenance.
  • WolfieOne Implementation and Ongoing Maintenance:
  • Assist and support with the testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance of WolfieOne, Oracle ERP implementation.
  • Additional Duties & Responsibilities as Assigned:
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment.
