Job description: Corporate Hospitality Staff AccountantThe Hospitality Management Team at Commonwealth Lodging is seeking a Corporate Hotel Staff Accountant to join our Virginia Beach office. This role supports the Corporate Controller in preparing monthly financial reports for our hotel portfolio.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to ensure smooth and continued operations of the company:

  • Support monthly financial statement preparation and reviews with the hospitality management team.
  • Provide leadership in financial planning, cash management forecasting, and ad hoc analysis for full-service hospitality properties.
  • Ensure financial statements comply with Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry and company policies.
  • Provide technical accounting support, especially in daily revenue reporting and cash management.
  • Prepare journal entries and manage month-end closing processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of ledgers and reports.
  • Provide analysis and financial support for standard and ad hoc reporting requirements.
  • Prepare required tax filings related to Sales, Lodging & Occupancy Taxes.
  • Train new staff on company culture, accounting systems, and processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and review accounting schedules.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience.
  • Proficiency in computer skills; Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Experience with hotel systems and M3 Hospitality Accounting Software preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of accounting experience; hotel accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and business decision-making skills.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the English language.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of finance and hospitality principles and practices.
  • Ability to manage people and solve complex problems.
  • Analytical skills to investigate and interpret data for logical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, and guests.
