Responsibilities
The Senior Telecom/Network Engineer will design, configure, manage, troubleshoot, support and implement the Telecom/Network Infrastructure. Also performs project management and coordinates the efforts of varied support staff. Under general direction, actively involved in decisions on technical direction, architecture design, and product selection for the enterprise telecom/data network. Assists and sometimes leads the deployment of telecom/network technology. Exercises a high level of independent judgment. Analyzes complex technical issues where analysis of situation requires evaluation and judgment. Provides input to short and long-term section strategy and budget planning. Assists with analysis of telecom/network infrastructure services. Proactively explores new technologies and integrates them into Mayo’s technical and business processes. Using established tools, actively monitors telecom/network services for problems and then resolves them. Plans and leads local and medium size enterprise projects and performs project management coordinating the efforts of internal and external staff with the customer and business needs. Occasionally oversees projects and tasks assigned to project team members and may be asked to provide input to their evaluations. Occasionally works under stressful conditions, leading medium-sized implementations and troubleshooting efforts that may have significant patient care and/or financial impact to the organization.
May be required to perform some of the duties of Telecom/Network Specialist. Will represent the Unit to various committees at Mayo.
Looking for expertise in Arista data center fabrics, Palo Alto firewalls as well as being able to provide advanced technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex enterprise network infrastructure. Independently configures, monitors, and optimizes multi-platform and multi-protocol environments, and associated security and monitoring systems. Performs hands-on network operational work such as implementing configuration changes, analyzing traffic flows, managing incidents, and ensuring high availability across wired and wireless networks. Coordinates installation, upgrades, and integrations according to design specifications and operational requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to services. Under general supervision, contributes to network architecture design, product selection, and standards development. Leads escalation efforts with vendors and internal teams during outages or periods of degraded performance and communicates with customers to mitigate operational impacts. Evaluates emerging network technologies and provides recommendations for improved supportability and monitoring. Oversees assigned projects and mentors team members, ensuring accountability for deliverables. Participates in defining both short- and long-term strategies for operational excellence and network modernization. Occasionally works under high-pressure conditions leading critical operational troubleshooting efforts that may significantly impact patient care or business operations.

Extensive knowledge of network and telecommunications protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, and the 7-layer OSI model.

Hands-on experience with Arista network fabrics, spine-leaf architectures, and enterprise firewalls such as Palo Alto Networks and Check Point.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage projects from design through implementation, and deliver results aligned with organizational objectives.

Proficient in network monitoring, management, and automation tools

Skilled in network hardware configuration, and troubleshooting across multi-platform environments.

Strong customer service orientation, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Proven organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of diagnosing and resolving complex network performance and connectivity issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years professional work experience or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 6 years professional work experience. A minimum of 8 years professional technical experience required for individuals without a degree.Extensive knowledge of telecom/network concepts, protocols, and 7-layer OSI model. In-depth understanding of basic telecom/network management and monitoring tools. Understands the interrelations of telecom/network technology and other information technology. Must be able to work independently and able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be customer focused and possess excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of personnel at various levels within and outside the institution. Good organizational and time management skills are required to handle the workload and track the various projects going on simultaneously. Solid analytical skills are also a necessity. Should demonstrate presence of skills such as coaching, human relations and leading effective meetings.
