Senior Director, AML Compliance Program

The Senior Director, AML Leader for Capital One’s AML Compliance Program is a key strategy and risk management leadership role that supports the entire AML program governance and oversight framework, as well as leads horizontal programs. This position will report to the MVP, Head of Compliance Risk Management, who in turn reports to Capital One’s Chief AML Officer (CAMLO). 

We are seeking a candidate with strategic thought leadership, decision-making, strong organization and communication skills, a team-first mentality, proven operational effectiveness, and vision to help lead Capital One’s AML program and department. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated AML risk managers with the goals of providing holistic end-to-end AML risk management, governance and oversight. 

The successful candidate will be a visible leader who will represent the company and its AML program with business and risk management leaders as well as external regulatory authorities. An executive presence, excellent written and verbal communication, influencing skills, and the ability to adapt and be effective in the progressive, dynamic Capital One culture are essential to success in this role. 

Responsibilities 

● Ownership of the governance and oversight framework for the end-to-end global AML program. 

● Provide leadership and execution of key strategic initiatives across the AML Compliance Risk Management program and key stakeholders. 

● Lead optimization and operational excellence of existing programs with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness of change management, prioritization, 

enterprise risk assessment, control assessment, metrics and reporting. 

● Collaborate and partner effectively across AML teams and Line of Business partners to ensure effective governance and oversight routines and controls are delivering desired results. 

● Provide senior management with effective, credible and grounded challenge regarding regulatory risk and control management, ensuring management is making informed and appropriate risk decisions, and allocating appropriate attention and resources to risk management and strategic priorities. 

● Inform and influence senior management on strategic priorities, and new and emerging risks 

● Provide leadership across AML Compliance Risk Management department for program enhancement and associate development 

● Direct interaction with Audit and External Regulators with regard to responding to inquiries, exams, audits related to the end-to-end AML program. 

Competencies 

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned financial services professional with strategic leadership skills, a forward lean, and a proven ability to operate effectively in a complex, highly-regulated environment. Candidates should have a passion for providing financial products and services that improve our customers’ lives while also complying with all applicable regulatory requirements and expectations. 

● Strong Business Judgment: Strong business judgment, analytical acumen, and the ability to evaluate complex, multi-dimensional situations and risk characteristics and to formulate appropriate compliance recommendations and advice 

● Communication: Highly developed interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, as well as with external parties (such as regulators and consultants) 

● Thought Leadership: Proven ability to effectively lead teams through strategic initiatives and organizational changes with ability to connect, influence and deliver results. 

Basic Qualifications: 

● Bachelor’s degree or military experience 

● At least 10 years in legal, compliance, regulatory or risk management experience in consumer financial services with a focus on Anti-Money Laundering

● At least 7 years of experience with financial services industry 

● At least 7 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience as a financial regulator preferred but not required 

● High proficiency with structuring slides and presentations in order to convey risk information 

● Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist certified (CAMS)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $234,000 – $267,100 for Sr. Director, ComplianceNew York, NY: $255,300 – $291,300 for Sr. Director, CompliancePlano, TX: $212,800 – $242,800 for Sr. Director, ComplianceRichmond, VA: $212,800 – $242,800 for Sr. Director, Compliance

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
