We maintain long-term, positive customer relationships and provide opportunity for growth and development for our employees.POSITION OVERVIEWThe Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring workers on construction projects maintain the highest level of safety. As an integral part of any complex or challenging project, a safety manager works in close collaboration with project owners and contractors to develop and protocols that foster an open culture of safety.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Thoroughly understand, administer, and enforce OSHA regulations and other federal, state, and local standards, and Company safety policies and procedures to establish and maintain a safe work environment.
- Completes all OSHA logs and files annual reports and postings to maintain compliance.
- Enforce all safety regulations to ensure a safe work environment at all times.
- Develop system accountability for the overall safety program for the Company.
- Develop and drive
and protocols that foster an open culture of safety. * Ensure that employees on site understand the chain of command when a safety incident occurs through strict company policies and procedures.
- Liaison with external parties such as government-employed inspectors, OSHA, MOSH, VOSH, inspectors to facilitate evaluation of construction sites.
- Familiar with environmental laws as they pertain to construction safety.
- Oversee and enforce all fire safety plans.
- Responsible for developing and implementing the overall Dvorak Safety Policy.
- Enforces zero tolerance policy with respect to safety violations, in a timely manner, driving disciplinary action with HR Manager’s input.
- Responsible for managing and driving the Company Safety Committee. Ensure all ideas are vetted, and actionable programs presented to management for approval, and approved programs are distributed and enforced as best as possible.
- Ensure diversity within safety committee.
- Maintain consistency in committee meeting agenda monthly, including measures taken to resolve current challenges and also drive a proactive safety approach on hot topics.
- Maintain organized packets on all accidents and injuries within the workplace. Identify root cause and necessary training opportunities. Report complete findings to management no later than 72 hours post incident, or if no recent incidents, at least one monthly meeting with manager and HR.
- Investigate all accidents and incidents, including implementing corrective action (post-accident), in a timely manner
- Track and ensure compliance on all company certifications for our employees through our software tracking system.
- Coordinates and conducts an active in-house safety training initiative.
- Ensure that employees on site are well-educated in safe practices and have all the resources necessary to work safely and perform required tasks.
- Reviews new company projects and identifies any unique safety concerns.
- Prepare detailed inspection report for each project visit and provides feedback to foreman and superintendents upon completion.
- Work with project team to develop and approve all AHAs and job specific safety plans.
- Identify safety issues and take corrective course of action.
- Visit project sites (20/month, with at least 8 from Roadway and Service).
- Provides one out of town location visit, per month, per project.
- Coach, mentor, and train employees on safety as it pertains to specific job site concerns.
- Coordinates with project customers to ensure crew compliance.
- Coordinate actions to remove any dangerous appliances or chemicals on the project sites.
- Maintain positive working relationships with the team, customer, vendors, etc. and deliver excellent customer service.
- Maintain professionalism and integrity in all contracts and dealings.
- Point of contact for owner/client safety representatives.
- Ensure that all projects have first aid and safety supplies.
- Provide first aid support as necessary.
- Coordinate with human resources to post all safety bulletins, safety posters, safety rules, and applicable legislation.
- Schedules and performs safety equipment (including PPE and rubbergoods) inspections and labels (harnesses/expiration date), addressing any issues found.
- Works in conjunction with Fleet Manager to review, implement and enforces DOT policies, procedures, and company insurance regarding equipment.
- Assists with DOT credentialing online system, remain in compliance at all times.
- Maintains compliance and integrity of required drug and alcohol testing procedures and documentation.
- Assisting with the distribution of uniforms for field employees.
- Performs all new hire safety orientation.
- Provide daily notification of Safety Manager’s whereabouts and off work schedule to front desk.
- Promote a positive company image through professional business relationships.
- Provide safety motivation to workforce by driving proactive safety initiatives that coincide with social media events, topics or seasons.
- Maintain at least six months of prescheduled safety training on the company calendar.
- Ensure safety folder on company server is organized, accessible (in pdf format), easy to find, including templates and examples when possible.
- Maintain an incident folder, offering access to only safety, manager, and HR for easy access to all company incident and accident data.
- Obligated to adhere to and sign company vehicle policy.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
SAFETY AND QUALITY CONTROL
- Require the implementation of and compliance with the Company’s Safety Program for assigned projects.
- Require the implementation of and compliance with the Company’s Quality Control Program for assigned projects.
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- OSHA 500 and 510 certification.
- First Aid / CPR instructor certification.
- Completed OSHA Train the trainer certification.
- CHST certified
- CIT certified
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five (5) years of safety field experience
- Knowledgeable with governmental ES&H standards, rules, and regulations and proficient with applying them to construction projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and experience with conducting accident investigations
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for management and field personnel
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of the Company, federal and state representatives, Company insurance carrier, and outside vendors
- Attention to detail and prioritizing tasks; self managed; timely completion of tasks and able to meet deadlines
