Responsibilities
The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (Dr. Dawn E. Jaroszewski, Bio) has a research fellowship position available in the broad area of Pectus cardiopulmonary research. Our research focus on and studies the complex interplay of the cardiopulmonary implications of pectus excavatum on the patient. With an echo data base of over 800 pre-and postoperative echocardiograms, Mayo Clinic is uniquely posed to evaluate and assess the cardiopulmonary effects of this deformity and surgical intervention on individuals.
The accepted candidate will be trained to work independently. They will be expected to review trans esophageal and transthoracic echocardiograms , collect, analyze, and process data, provide mentorship to other members of the group, and assist in the drafting of manuscripts for scientific journals. They will also have career development opportunities, including participating in conferences and applying for grants and fellowships.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
Qualifications
We are primarily interested in candidates whose research interests and qualifications broadly align in one of the following areas:
- Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program.
- Physician level degree and training in cardiology
- Ability to review trans esophageal and transthoracic echocardiograms
- Verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. Skills with Excel, statistics, and manuscript writing are preferred but not required.
The following is required for the completeness of the application:
- Current curriculum vitae with bibliography, a brief statement of interest that includes your qualifications, and contact details of at least three references.
- Proof of doctoral or medical degree (copy of a diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university’s Registrar’s office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.
- Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI before an interview.
