A Research Scientist is being recruited to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression, metastasis, and cellular metabolism. Our research program uses biochemistry, cell biology, mouse models, and patient datasets to identify novel therapeutic strategies for GI cancers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the PI and lab members to design and conduct rigorous experimental research
Independently manage research projects and projects of lab members
Perform laboratory experiments independently and in partnership with lab members
Contribute to grant preparation and strategic planning
Analyze data and maintain detailed documentation
Present results to the PI, laboratory members, and interest groups
Help maintain laboratory environment and operations
Provide technical support to laboratory staff
Mentor trainees and onboard new members
Prepare resulting manuscripts
Qualifications
The ideal Research Scientist candidate must have a doctoral level degree in life science (biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, bioengineering, or related field) as well as a minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral research training at Mayo or elsewhere. Must hold academic rank (i.e., Instructor, Assistant Professor) at Mayo at the time of accepting the Research Scientist position or achieve it immediately thereafter. The candidate must bring a unique skill, technique or knowledge to the sponsoring program as documented by professional accomplishments and publication record and will have made a career decision to pursue regular employment at Mayo in support of an established research staff program.
The candidate should bring new and complementary expertise to the laboratory clearly demonstrated by first-author publications. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as is a track record of mentorship. Candidates should be self-motivated and also thrive in a team environment. In addition, candidates should have a strong publication record in rigorous peer-reviewed journals and a track record of success in grant writing. Hands-on experience performing experiments in related areas such as cell culture, protein biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, mouse models, and in vitro and in vivo screens is essential, as is proficiency in sequence analysis. Ideally the candidate should have experience in GI systems, inflammation, and cell biology processes.
