Why Mayo Clinic
Responsibilities
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in The Department of Hematology. The decline of the immune system with age is one of the key contributors to age-related diseases. Immune decline has played a detrimental role in the current Covid 19 pandemic, where age was the biggest risk factor. Another scenario highlighting the importance of the aging immune system predisposing to disease risk is our declining ability to purge senescent cells with age. On the bright side, an increasing number of potential rejuvenating therapies are being explored to counter immune system decline. This project will combine novel computational and experimental approaches to understand the underlying cell intrinsic factors governing stem and progenitor cell rejuvenation in humans following a variety of rejuvenation approaches. The postdoc would need to have competence in basic laboratory procedures such as bio specimens processing, PCR methodologies, and standard hematological assays such as flow cytometry, culture of human and mouse blood cells, colony forming assays and transplantation assays into mice. Experience in single cell omics data and in overexpression of lentiviral vectors in human primary cells would be desirable.
