We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the project Gesture: Modelling Virtual Humans, working with Professor Stacy Marsella.
Specifically, the post holder will research human nonverbal behaviour, apply the resulting knowledge to the design of virtual humans and evaluate the designs in human subject studies. Virtual humans are graphics based artificially intelligent characters that look and act like a person and can interact with a human using the same verbal and nonverbal behaviour that humans use. The work will specifically explore the relation in human face-to-face interaction between participants’ mental states and their nonverbal behaviour, computationally model that relation, work with programmers to realise that model in a virtual human and experimentally evaluate its impact in interactions between humans and virtual humans.
Candidates should be qualified to SCQF level 12 (PhD) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s) and have an up-to-date knowledge of data driven machine learning techniques.
This post is full time with funding up to 30th September 2023.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Stacy Marsella via email: Stacy.Marsella@glasgow.ac.uk
