Job description: Description :Excelsior University seeks experienced, student-centered instructors to join our instructional pool of part-time faculty for the required first-term experience course, the Cornerstone. Cornerstone instructors set the tone for the university’s commitment to high-quality student support, frequent and substantive engagement in the course, and individualized, constructive feedback on student work. As such they are expected to be the most engaged and student-centered instructors at the college.Applicants should clearly indicate their qualifications to teach in the disciplines of social sciences or humanities, including specific qualifications in teaching research and writing skills to novice students. Applicants should also clearly indicate their prior experience supporting and teaching first-term, online, adult learners.Reporting to the Department Chair for Liberal Arts and Degree Completion, part-time faculty are assigned to course sections based on their qualifications, interest, performance, and course section availability.This is a remote online part-time faculty position. Instructional faculty at Excelsior University teach online using pre-built course shells with common readings, activities, and assignments across all sections.Duties and Responsibilities:

- Implementing courses as designed by the University.
- Bringing their own knowledge and expertise to bear on the subject matter.
- Engaging regularly and substantively with students via email, announcements, phone calls, Zoom, and asynchronous online discussion boards.
- Supporting new and at-risk students through frequent outreach, interventions, and collaboration with academic advising and other university student support units.
- Familiarity with the Canvas learning management system, course webtext, and the support services available to students.
- Providing timely, high-quality feedback on student work, including a substantive research paper.
- Holding regular virtual individual student and group student meetings.
- Review of a teaching and learning analytics dashboard and data-driven decision making based on trends for new and at-risk students.
- Keeping the department chair apprised of any student or course issues.
- Following University policies.
- Completing University-required training, Cornerstone faculty trainings, and attending required pre-term meetings.

- A master’s degree or higher in a research-based program. Strong preferred humanities or social science discipline.
- Significant prior experience teaching first-term adult students in an online college environment.
- Experience teaching in an asynchronous online environment.
- Experience with the Canvas learning management system preferred.
- A student-centered teaching approach.
- A commitment to supporting the success of all students, including those under-served by traditional higher education.
Rate of Pay: * A flat rate of $1000 per credit for a section of at least 10 undergraduate students or 8 graduate students. Courses that fall under these student headcounts are considered low enrolled courses.
- Low enrolled courses will be paid on a directed study rate ($250/student for undergraduate courses and $300/student for graduate courses) based on the number of students enrolled in the course section at the close of late registration.
Remote candidates, please be aware that the University is required to withhold New York state income taxes from your wages, as well as the state income tax, if applicable, in the state where you perform services. This is because of New York’s “convenience of the employer” rule, which requires the University, as a New York employer, to withhold New York income tax from the wages of its employees working outside of New York if the employee’s work is performed outside of New York for the convenience of the employee, rather than out of a business necessity of the University.
