Our graduates will excel in the competencies and values needed for leadership and service in a rapidly evolving world.TITLE: Online Communications SpecialistDIVISION: Academic AffairsDEPARTMENT: Distance EducationREPORTS TO: Chief Online Learning OfficerSUMMARY:Under the guidance of the Chief Online Learning Officer, the Online Communications Specialist plays a key role in creating a dynamic and connected community for students participating in Distance Education programs. This position focuses on developing and implementing effective communication strategies to enhance student engagement, foster academic success, and build a strong sense of inclusion among online learners.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and manage outreach communication strategies, including newsletters, to address the specific needs of online students.Lead and coordinate synchronous and asynchronous orientation programs to ensure students have a smooth transition into online learning.Design and implement initiatives to promote community building among Distance Education students, leveraging online platforms and organizing hybrid events.Work with academic departments to organize and host engaging events such as workshops, networking opportunities, and online social activities tailored to the interests of online students.Serve as the main point of contact for Distance Education students and internal stakeholders, facilitating communication and meetings with faculty, staff, and students as needed.Maintain detailed records of student engagement, participation, and outcomes, analyzing data to assess program success and guide future initiatives.Represent the interests of online students, advocating for resources, policies, and services that support their academic and personal success.Create and distribute informational materials through social media and other communication channels to promote online learning resources and events.Develop innovative approaches to enhance the student experience.Regularly refine strategies to keep pace with evolving technology and the changing needs of students.Perform additional tasks as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least three years of professional experience in communications or a related field.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with expertise in using digital tools and platforms.
  • Experience with data analysis and generating reports.
  • Knowledge of online education technologies and platforms.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with student development theories and proven practices for fostering student engagement.
  • Professional experience in higher education, student services, or related areas with a focus on supporting and engaging students.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary ranges for this position are NYC Metro Range – $64,350 – $71,100 and National Range – $55,000 – $61,850.
