Why Mayo Clinic
Responsibilities
Our cardiovascular surgery NP/PA hospitalist work collaboratively with our surgeons, residents/fellows, nurses, and other staff to provide 24/7 coverage of acutely ill patients on the progressive care unit in the hospital. This role requires timely assessments, interventions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Patient and family education about recovery and disease process is also a crucial part of the health promotion for our patients.
We are ranked among the Best Hospitals for heart care and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report! The patient population NP/PAs manage includes the pediatric and/or adult CV surgical patient heart and lung transplant, and VAD patients in the Progressive Care Units. Working in collaboration with talented surgeons and a multidisciplinary team, this diverse patient population provides you the opportunity to hone your skills in a specialty or for continuous learning as you care for these patients. Shifts are 13-hour day/night rotation with every third weekend and 2 holidays per year. The ability to pick your own schedule allows for valued off-time for personal pursuits, development, and life/work balance.
We pride ourselves in fostering a supportive, learning environment with a modifiable orientation schedule to give you the tools needed to succeed within a critical care environment. After orientation, there are abundant opportunities for continued professional growth within our large cardiovascular surgery team. Teaching with the education committee, publishing or performing research with the professional development committee, and/or participating in practice improvements within our team are all possibilities. Your leadership team and coworkers will encourage you to participate in education, research, and quality improvement to provide high level patient care. Ideal candidates would have a continuous desire to learn and develop as a cardiovascular surgery provider.
