Contract Length/ Days: (2024/2025 School Year, 260 Days)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
Preferred:
One or more years of experience in loss prevention, emergency dispatching, security, or communications.
Courses in Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer or equivalent.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: The School Security Dispatcher plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors within the school district. The primary responsibilities include monitoring security systems, responding to emergency situations, coordinating with security personnel, and ensuring timely communication of incidents and activities. The dispatcher is the central point of contact for school safety and security operations, maintaining a calm and controlled demeanor to support effective crisis response and daily security operations. This position must also implement all grant components with fidelity and according to the metrics/measures identified by the programs’ evaluators.

Essential Job Functions:
Dispatch Operations:
Answer and respond to security calls, emergencies, and incidents within the school premises, including alarms, disturbances, and other security-related concerns.
Dispatch security personnel to incidents as necessary, ensuring efficient communication and coordination with on-site teams.
Monitoring and Surveillance:
Operate and monitor security systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms, to identify and respond to unusual or suspicious activity.
Maintain awareness of school events and areas that require additional monitoring to proactively address potential security issues.
Incident Reporting and Documentation:
Promptly and accurately document all calls, incidents, and responses, ensuring a detailed and clear record of each situation for future reference.
Prepare incident reports, maintain daily logs, and update security records as needed.
Emergency Response Coordination:
Act as the initial point of contact during emergencies, following established protocols to ensure a prompt response.
Coordinate with law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and other first responders when needed, facilitating their access to the school premises.
Communication and Support:
Maintain clear and effective communication with school administrators, security personnel, and relevant school staff to ensure awareness of ongoing situations.
Provide guidance to security officers and staff during incidents, supporting a unified response to emergencies and ensuring adherence to school safety protocols.
Security System Management:
Assist in testing and troubleshooting security equipment and systems to ensure their functionality and reliability.
Report any system malfunctions or issues to the appropriate department for repairs or maintenance.
Program Fobs, create new employee profiles, and create new badges.
Program door schedules; lock and unlock doors manually; reset malfunctioning doors

Professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Experience serving the needs of a diverse student and community population.
Knowledge of security protocols, emergency response procedures, and local laws and regulations.
Proficiency in using security systems, surveillance equipment, and computer-based dispatch software.
Strong verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make quick decisions in high-stress situations. Prefers a work environment where flexibility, ability to deal with conflict, and a high tolerance for stress are a part of the assignment.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to safety and security.
Must be self-motivated; work under minimal supervision; work cooperatively with the police department and the public as well as being a team player within the department.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
Ability to stay focused and alert over extended periods.
Availability to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends, as required.
Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands:
Ability to sit and monitor screens for extended periods.
Capable of using standard dispatch equipment and communication devices.
Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
Work is primarily indoors, in a controlled environment, with occasional noise interruptions from alarms or communications systems.
May require extended shifts or on-call availability during critical incidents or emergencies.
