GENERAL DESCRIPTION of RESPONSIBILITY

Through delegation from the Greater Prudhoe Bay (GPB) Laboratory Supervisor, and in a safe, legal, and ethical manner, the GPB Laboratory Technician provides the technical expertise to collect samples and perform field gas testing on the wells and test separators located at the GPB Oil Field as well as the technical expertise to perform analytical testing activities and maintain the associated records at the GPB Laboratory.

SUPERVISION

The GPB Laboratory Technician reports directly to the GPB Laboratory Supervisor, the O&M Superintendent, and Kakivik Asset Management. Works cooperatively with all Local, Area, and Regional Departments in the provision of routine GPB Laboratory services.

Essential Duties and laboratory SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

To implement the proper safety, health, waste disposal, quality and housekeeping practices as directed in the GPB Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) within the GPB Laboratory.
To determine which wells are available to collect/sample daily by consulting the Western Operating Area (WOA) and Eastern Operating Area (EOA) Sampling and Testing Database and then collecting them in appropriate containers.
To receive, examine and record through a login process in Lab works, inbound gas samples for testing at the GPB Laboratory.


To update the daily samples collected in the “Western Operating Area (WOA) and Eastern Operating Area (EOA) Sampling and Testing” database.
To be well versed in the GPB Laboratory’s computer databases for testing information, laboratory data and changeover notes.
To prepare samples for shipment to outside laboratories with packing lists when appropriate.
To prepare the following monthly reports for the GPB Laboratory’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

Monthly Test Separator sampling

Quarterly Test Separator Sampling

Semi-annual and Annual Test Separator Sampling

Wellhead & Tracer Sampling

Special Request Sampling (ad hoc samples)

To monitor and update the Western Operating Area (WOA) and Eastern Operating Area (EOA) Sampling and Testing Database for ‘shut in’ wells as defined by a flow of less than 168 hours/month as extracted from the field production data.

To make appropriate entries into GPB Laboratory sample login books, field notebooks, logs, control charts, calibration records, laboratory worksheets and any other media whether print or electronic to assure the validity, traceability, and communication to the customer of the GPB Laboratory, test results.
To maintain documentation, equipment, and work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.
To assist in the training of less experienced employees.
To participate in the writing and updating of policies and procedures for the GPB Laboratory.
To be a positive company representative to the GPB Laboratory clients.


To trouble shoot malfunctioning instruments to the best of their training and ability.
To adhere to professionalism and to the principles of the scientific method, basing decisions on education, experience, observation, and deduction.
To monitor the availability of supplies and instruments needed for testing processes and makes any needs for replenishment of such supplies or repair to instruments known to the Laboratory Supervisor.
To carry out the above responsibilities, and other duties as assigned, in a safe, legal, unbiased, and ethical manner, and in a fashion which demonstrates support for the Company’s Quality Policy, Business Ethics Policy, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.


Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years old.
Valid driver’s license
2-year degree in science or 2-years of equivalent experience in sampling hydrocarbons
Basic knowledge of chemical stoichiometry, mathematics, and of gravimetric, volumetric, instrumental, and physical methods of field, hydrocarbon gas analysis.
Significant computer database usage.
Integrity, competence, and professionalism


Positive attitude, a high tolerance for job pressure, long hours, and the ability for working and communicating with persons of diverse personalities and backgrounds.
Efficient in timely handling of all work assignments and projects.
Position requires driving greater than 10,000 miles/year in a harsh, arctic environment.
Must be willing to work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule located at the Greater Prudhoe Bay camp near Deadhorse, Alaska in Non-private living arrangements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be capable of working outside, year around in the extreme Northern section of Alaska.
Lift 50 pounds from ground level to chest height.
Maintain safe but rapid work-pace determined by situational need.
Work and walk on uneven surfaces.
Ability to frequently climb multiple flights of stairs and ladders.

Offer contingent upon ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
