We are currently seeking a motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our IT Department’s Integration team and lead the newly formed CRM Squad.


Senior Software Engineer Integration Team Overview

Our Integration team is at the heart of Iceland’s IT operations, responsible for managing all integration-related activities. The team is organized into multiple squads, each consisting of up to five software engineers led by a lead engineer and supported by senior software engineers. Each squad oversees a portfolio of products, with additional support from testers and business analysts.

The team adopts a cloud-first approach, leveraging Microsoft Azure to develop microservices with a strong focus on Azure’s serverless portfolio. We follow modern engineering practices and methodologies to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.


Purpose of the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining Azure-based integration services. You will also provide line management and mentorship to junior team members. This is a hands-on role where you will champion best practices in integration and cloud engineering, ensuring the delivery of robust, high-quality solutions.

 Software Development

Key responsibilities include:

Integration Engineers

  • Mentor and line manage junior engineers, fostering their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with the Software Development Manager and Principal Engineers to refine and enhance the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to meet squad and team objectives.
  • Work closely with business analysts and testers to deliver solutions that align with business requirements and adhere to team best practices.

Product Ownership

  • Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, including best practices and support runbooks.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to product aging, failing components, and architectural vulnerabilities.
  • Support the remediation of technical debt and ensure a robust support model is in place.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, from unit test coverage to automated integration tests.

Innovation and New Technologies

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and assess their relevance to the squad and team’s product portfolio.
  • Experiment with new technologies to address current business challenges.
  • Conduct brown bag sessions to share knowledge and insights with the wider Iceland team.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Principal Engineers, the Software Development Manager, and the Solutions Architect to achieve team goals and objectives.

What We Are Looking For

  • An experienced C# and .NET Engineer ready to step into a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, Terraform, and C# within an integration-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), particularly in cloud environments, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with team collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
