Job Description

Summary

This position is with the Bureau of Indian Education at Pine Ridge School. The Transitional Teacher (Elementary) serves as a classroom teacher for general education subjects in a lower elementary setting. This position is intended for individuals working toward full state certification through an approved alternative licensure program.

Key Responsibilities

Under supervision, duties may include:

  • Developing yearly instructional outlines and daily lesson plans.
  • Teaching general education subjects using various instructional techniques.
  • Evaluating student performance using tests, assignments, and assessments.
  • Maintaining classroom discipline and a positive learning environment.
  • Supervising students throughout the school day to ensure safety and well-being.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • Level 11: Bachelor’s Degree and enrolled in an approved Alternative Licensure Program in the state of South Dakota.
  • Level 14: Master’s Degree and enrolled in the same.

Licensure Requirements:

  • Enroll in a state-approved alternative licensure program within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain full state teacher certification within three (3) contract terms.

Other Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Must not exceed three (3) contract terms under Transitional status

    • Classroom instruction
    • Communication
    • Classroom management
    • Standards-based assessment
