The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking an experienced and dedicated Supervisory Security Guard to join our team in Shasta, California. This is an excellent opportunity for security professionals to apply their leadership skills while helping to safeguard critical water resources and infrastructure vital to communities throughout the West. As a Supervisory Security Guard, you will lead an armed tactical security force, ensuring the safety of Reclamation facilities, personnel, and surrounding lands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the activities of a team of security officers, ensuring tasks are properly assigned, balanced, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance guidance; recommend corrective or disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Enforce security measures for access control, vehicle use, parking, and response to breaches in security systems.
  • Take decisive action during emergencies to protect people and property, using sound judgment and initiative.
  • Respond effectively to a broad range of security incidents and situations.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and able to pass a background investigation and drug screening.
  • Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and wear a Bureau-issued uniform while on duty.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and meet ongoing physical fitness and firearms proficiency standards, including successful completion of an intensive 8–10 week Security Guard Academy at Grand Coulee.
  • Position requires carrying a firearm; individuals with a domestic violence conviction are ineligible under the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Will be designated as an emergency responder and may be required to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and holidays as part of a 24/7 security force.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least one year of specialized security or protective service experience at or above the GS-08 level, including leadership responsibilities, training coordination, and enforcing security protocols.
  • Experience may include military service in combat arms or security/law enforcement roles.
  • Education cannot be substituted for experience in this position.

Additional Information:

  • Initial consideration will be given to applications received by May 12, 2025.
  • Eligible selectees may receive recruitment or relocation incentives and additional pay for night shifts, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required.
  • This position is eligible for telework only during emergencies or natural disasters.

    Evaluation Process (Continued):
    Phase 3: Candidates who pass the physical test will receive a final score based on Phase 1 results. Those ranked as Best Qualified (Category A) will be referred to the hiring manager for consideration.
    Veterans Preference:
    Hiring for Security Guard positions prioritizes veterans by law, if qualified veterans are available. If no veterans apply, non-veterans may be selected.

    Education: If qualifying based on education, provide transcripts or diplomas from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized institution.
