Summary:

The Supervisory Nurse (Inpatient) oversees inpatient care operations at the PHS Hospital in Red Lake, MN. The facility provides 24/7 ambulatory and emergency services (ER Class II), as well as inpatient services including medical, post-surgical, prenatal, postpartum, newborn, and pediatric care. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or designee and plays a critical leadership role in ensuring high-quality patient care, staff supervision, and adherence to clinical standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise inpatient care staff, including RNs, LPNs, nursing assistants, CSR technicians, and clerical staff.
  • Manage onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and staff counseling.
  • Develop and maintain biweekly schedules, assign shifts based on skill levels, and adjust staffing to meet patient care demands.
  • Monitor and improve care delivery, ensuring adherence to policies, infection control practices, and safety standards.
  • Maintain and update inpatient care manuals, infection control policies, and sterilization procedures.
  • Oversee inventory standards, ordering, and stocking of clinical supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree or diploma from an accredited nursing program. Foreign nursing graduates must have CGFNS certification.
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or territory.
  • Experience (GS-11 level): At least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-9; or a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.

Professional competencies include:

  • Advanced clinical nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Strong administrative, supervisory, and training capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a healthcare setting.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Subject to supervisory probationary period.
  • May include on-call or standby duty.
