Summary
This is a Title 32 Excepted Service position with the Illinois Air National Guard (182 AW). The position is for a Supervisory IT Specialist (Policy and Planning), classified under Position Description Number D156P01. Appointment to this position requires membership in the Illinois National Guard.

Key Responsibilities
As the Supervisory IT Specialist (Policy and Planning), you will be responsible for the overall management and readiness of the Communications Squadron. Key duties include:
- Leading and supervising a diverse team through subordinate supervisors
- Managing information systems, communications networks (voice and data), IT help desks, cybersecurity, radio/computer maintenance, and logistics
- Overseeing training programs, career development, and disciplinary actions
- Directing short- and long-range planning to meet mission and readiness requirements
- Developing and implementing unit programs, including public affairs, fitness, hazard abatement, fraud prevention, and disaster response
- Maintaining liaison with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure operational safety and inter-agency coordination
- Managing agreements, leases, and memoranda of understanding with other military and civilian entities
- Ensuring the implementation of secure, mission-capable information systems
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a current or prospective member of the Illinois Air National Guard (officer rank: Captain to Major)
- Must wear the military uniform
- Must obtain/maintain the required security clearance
- Subject to background investigation and random drug testing
- Must comply with DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance certification requirements
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
- Must register for Selective Service if born after December 31, 1959
- Irregular hours/overtime may be required for mission support
Qualifications
General Experience (All Applicants Must Have):
- Attention to detail
- Customer service and communication skills
- Problem-solving and judgment in IT-related areas
Specialized Experience (GS-13 Level):
Must have one year of experience at the GS-12 level that includes:
- Leading complex IT projects or systems planning
- Coordinating actions across units or departments
- Preparing cost/benefit analysis and documentation
- Adapting IT policies or procedures to meet mission needs
Supervisory Experience Required:
- Managing IT functions and leading personnel
- Directing workflow and organizational priorities
