Summary
This announcement is for Substitute Teacher positions at all Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools in the Fort Campbell and Fort Knox, Kentucky communities. Applicants can select preferred schools during the application process here.
Working as a Substitute with DoDEA does not affect your eligibility for Military Spouse Preference (MSP).
Who May Apply
- Open to the public: U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.
- Applicants must reside within the local commuting area of the schools.
Duties
- Provide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher, following school and system-wide curricula, laws, policies, and regulations.
- Plan and deliver lessons that promote students’ educational and social development.
- Interact professionally with students, staff, and parents.
- Perform non-instructional duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and parent information.
- Report to and be supervised by the school principal.
Requirements & Conditions
- Substitute teaching is intermittent and depends on teacher absences; no guarantee of regular or recurring work hours.
- Payment only for hours worked. Temporary appointments do not include federal employee benefits.
- Must live within the commuting area.
- Subject to the Dual Compensation Act limiting total weekly hours if holding another federal job.
- Requires suitability screening due to regular contact with minors.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Qualifications
Candidates qualify under one of two categories:
- Training Instructor (Substitute), AD-1710-00: High school diploma or GED required (no diploma submission needed).
- Teacher (Substitute), AD-1712-00: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution required. Official transcripts must be submitted.
Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
Additional Information
- Positions are filled as needed throughout the school year.
- Appointments are temporary for the length of the school year.
- Military Spouse Preference eligibility remains intact.
