Position Duties

As a Computer Scientist, you may be responsible for the following:

  • Leading or participating in the development and maintenance of software products that support weapon system fire control.
  • Working on an Agile development team and coordinating with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Participating in Agile ceremonies (Daily Standups, Sprint Planning/Review) and sponsor-level meetings.
  • Designing and developing new applications or enhancing existing systems.
  • Leading or contributing to software design and architecture activities.
  • Applying modern coding standards and performing software security assessments (e.g., static code analysis, fuzz testing).
  • Addressing cybersecurity throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Staying informed about new tools, techniques, and best practices.
  • Mentoring junior team members (ND-04 level only).

Qualifications

ND-03 Pay Band (GS-05/08 Equivalent):

  • One year of specialized experience at the ND-02 level in software development or testing OR
  • A master’s degree or two years of graduate-level education in a related field OR
  • A combination of education and experience

ND-04 Pay Band (GS-09/11 Equivalent):

  • One year of specialized experience at the ND-03 level in designing, developing, testing, or sustaining software in support of system engineering projects.

All Applicants Must Meet Basic Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field that includes at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for a security clearance.
  • Subject to E-Verify and Selective Service (males born after 12/31/1959).
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • May require travel, including to remote or overseas locations.
  • This position is covered by the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce requirements:
    • ND-03: Role 621, Level Basic certification within 12 months.
    • ND-04: Role 621, Level Intermediate certification within 12 months.
