Position Overview:
As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will provide expert engineering support to ensure life and property safety from fire hazards. Your work will include fire risk assessments, system design and testing, and compliance evaluations for FAA facilities. This role may involve field inspections, project reviews, and collaboration across various engineering disciplines to enhance fire safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct fire hazard assessments and predict risks
- Recommend and oversee fire prevention and mitigation strategies
- Design and review fire protection systems including detection, suppression, and alarm systems
- Inspect and test fire safety equipment and ensure code compliance
- Contribute to research and development of innovative fire protection technologies
- Provide engineering solutions for facility modernization, repair, and construction
- Investigate fire incidents and recommend corrective actions
- Interpret fire safety codes and advise stakeholders
Qualifications:
Basic Education Requirement:
Applicants must possess a degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Transcripts are required.
Grade-Specific Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level:
- FV-H (GS-10/11 equivalent): Experience in fire protection design reviews, evaluating compliance with fire safety codes, and inspecting fire safety systems in facilities.
- FV-I (GS-12/13 equivalent): Experience managing fire safety assessments, overseeing system testing, and ensuring fire code compliance for large-scale construction or renovation projects.
- FV-J (GS-13 equivalent): Leading complex fire protection designs, preparing technical reports, and advising on regulatory compliance and hazard mitigation strategies.
- FV-K (GS-14 equivalent): Leading fire protection programs, interpreting and applying fire safety codes, and directing innovative design projects for new or existing facilities.
