Summary
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is hiring Electronics Engineers (Series 0855) under Direct Hiring Authority. These roles support critical engineering functions related to electronic systems used in navigation, communications, surveillance, and air traffic operations.

Key Responsibilities
As an Electronics Engineer, your work will focus on:
- Designing, analyzing, testing, and maintaining electronic circuits and systems
- Applying principles of electromagnetic/acoustic wave energy and signal processing
- Supporting FAA National Airspace Systems (NAS) communications, navigation, and surveillance infrastructure
- Developing technical documentation and engineering test plans
- Providing expert technical analysis, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation
Qualifications
Basic Requirements (All Grades)
You must meet one of the following:
A. Degree in Engineering
- From an ABET-accredited program or
- A program with courses in calculus, physics, and advanced engineering topics across at least five of seven defined subject areas
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience
With evidence of professional knowledge such as:
- Licensure (EIT, PE)
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Academic coursework equivalent to an engineering degree
- Related degree plus 1+ year of supervised engineering experience

Grade Level Qualification Requirements
FV-G (GS-5/7/9 Equivalent)
- Must meet the basic education requirement only (as above)
FV-H (GS-10/11 Equivalent)
- One year of professional experience equivalent to FV-G level
- e.g., collecting/analyzing engineering data, performing tests, writing technical reports
OR
- e.g., collecting/analyzing engineering data, performing tests, writing technical reports
- 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or completed Ph.D.
FV-I (GS-12/13 Equivalent)
- One year of specialized experience at FV-H level
- e.g., modifying technical manuals, making system recommendations, conducting engineering analysis on complex systems
FV-J (GS-14 Equivalent)
- One year of specialized experience at FV-I level
- e.g., national-level engineering support, developing test strategies, interpreting technical requirements for FAA systems
FV-K (GS-15 Equivalent)
- One year of specialized experience at FV-J level
- e.g., leading teams, overseeing complex systems testing, managing engineering policy or software projects
Other Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Selective Service registration (if applicable)
- May require security clearance and/or pre-employment physical
