Summary:
This position is being filled using Direct Hiring Authority for the 0861 Engineering Series.

Position Overview:
The incumbent will perform professional engineering duties related to aerospace vehicles and associated equipment. Responsibilities may include planning, research, design, testing, evaluation, production, operation, maintenance, and certification. The role may also involve investigating aerospace phenomena, monitoring aerospace vehicles, piloting, developing aviation safety standards, and providing leadership on aerospace engineering programs.
This role requires applying scientific and engineering principles in aeronautics and astronautics, including aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, flight mechanics, propulsion, and related fields.
Basic Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent coursework covering calculus, physics, chemistry, and five core engineering science areas such as statics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electrical circuits, and material science.
- Alternatives:
- Combination of education and experience demonstrating engineering knowledge.
- Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Related scientific degree plus one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Specialized Experience Levels:
- FV-G: Meet basic education requirements.
- FV-H: One year of specialized experience (e.g., flight data analysis, technical reporting, safety analysis).
- FV-I: One year specialized experience in airborne systems, avionics design, certification, or related areas.
- FV-J: One year specialized experience managing complex aerospace research or engineering studies.
- FV-K: One year specialized experience in managing engineering teams, leading safety and flight test risk projects, and resource management.
Graduate education or combination of education and experience may substitute for some specialized experience requirements.

- Position may be filled at any pay band level; duty location may be negotiable.
