Position Summary:
As a Special Education Teacher at Pine Ridge School, you will play a key role in delivering individualized and inclusive instruction to students with special needs. You will create lesson plans, assess student progress, maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, and adapt instruction to meet a diverse range of learning abilities in an elementary or secondary classroom setting.
Key Duties:
- Develop yearly instructional plans and daily lesson outlines based on curriculum goals.
- Teach and adapt instructional methods and materials to support student learning.
- Evaluate student progress using a variety of assessments.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom climate that promotes self-esteem, discipline, and social development.
- Manage classroom behavior and ensure student safety.
- Supervise students throughout the academic day.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must pass a background check (Public Trust clearance)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid state-issued teaching certificate in Special Education (provisional certificates accepted if aligned with state licensure rules)
- Valid driver’s license
Pay Levels Based on Education:
- Pay Level 11: Bachelor’s degree
- Pay Level 12–13: Bachelor’s + 15–30 graduate semester hours
- Pay Level 14–16: Master’s degree + graduate coursework
- Pay Level 17: Doctorate
Applicants must also meet state certification standards for South Dakota or agree to obtain certification within two academic years under a provisional contract.
