Position Summary:

As a Special Education Teacher at Pine Ridge School, you will play a key role in delivering individualized and inclusive instruction to students with special needs. You will create lesson plans, assess student progress, maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, and adapt instruction to meet a diverse range of learning abilities in an elementary or secondary classroom setting.


Key Duties:

  • Develop yearly instructional plans and daily lesson outlines based on curriculum goals.
  • Teach and adapt instructional methods and materials to support student learning.
  • Evaluate student progress using a variety of assessments.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom climate that promotes self-esteem, discipline, and social development.
  • Manage classroom behavior and ensure student safety.
  • Supervise students throughout the academic day.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must pass a background check (Public Trust clearance)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Valid state-issued teaching certificate in Special Education (provisional certificates accepted if aligned with state licensure rules)
  • Valid driver’s license

Pay Levels Based on Education:

  • Pay Level 11: Bachelor’s degree
  • Pay Level 12–13: Bachelor’s + 15–30 graduate semester hours
  • Pay Level 14–16: Master’s degree + graduate coursework
  • Pay Level 17: Doctorate

Applicants must also meet state certification standards for South Dakota or agree to obtain certification within two academic years under a provisional contract.
