This announcement is a Direct Hire Solicitation used to collect applications for current or future pharmacist vacancies. Applications received through this public notice may or may not result in a referral or selection for employment.

🗂️ Position Overview

Duties and responsibilities will vary based on grade level and assignment.

  • Ensure the pharmacy is prepared to support the clinic and local community during emergencies and disasters.
  • Review complex medication treatment plans and develop guidelines, instructions, and standard procedures to meet technical and administrative pharmaceutical care requirements.
  • Provide direct pharmaceutical care services to patients, including coordinating clinical pharmacy programs and supporting healthcare teams within the Medical Group.
  • Oversee daily operations, manage workflow, and integrate the Refill Pharmacy’s activities within the broader pharmacy program.

  • Qualifications
    Current Employees:
    Individuals currently employed in this occupational series as of September 2017 are considered to have met the basic qualification requirements for their existing positions.

    Specialized Experience Requirements
    For GS-11:
    You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level. Examples of qualifying experience include:
    Developing unique pharmaceutical formulas and preparing special compound medications.
    Providing expert guidance to other pharmacists and medical staff on specialized preparations.
    Serving as a key consultant on the effects and appropriate use of investigational drugs or drugs pending general approval.
    For GS-12:
    You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Examples include:
    Overseeing the entire pharmacy operation, managing both technical and administrative responsibilities of significant scope and complexity.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    Thorough knowledge of medical center and pharmacy operations, policies, related clinical services, drug formularies, prescription processes, medication regimens, and patient care coordination.
    Understanding of drug and prescription order principles, including generic and brand names, Latin abbreviations, legal requirements, and therapeutic classifications.
    Familiarity with pharmacy manufacturing and compounding processes, procurement, prepackaging, storage, and inventory control for dispensing medications.
    Knowledge of professional pharmacy standards established by The Joint Commission (TJC), the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
    Knowledge of applicable safety and security procedures.
    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work and staff of a small to medium-sized pharmacy operation; provide expert clinical consultation; and mentor or precept pharmacy trainees.

    Other Experience Considerations
    Part-Time or Unpaid Experience:
    Relevant part-time or unpaid work, such as internships or volunteer roles, will be credited toward experience requirements if properly documented. Clearly list duties, responsibilities, and weekly hours for each position.
    Volunteer Experience:
    Volunteer service through programs like Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, or similar community, student, or professional organizations can help meet qualification requirements by building applicable knowledge and skills.

    Education Requirements
    If you are qualifying based on education (or a combination of education and experience), you must submit transcripts with your application. An institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education must accredit all education. Check accreditation status here.
    Foreign Education:
    Degrees earned outside the U.S. must be evaluated for equivalency to a U.S. accredited program. It is your responsibility to provide this documentation.
