Summary
This position is located at one of the Indian Health Service (IHS) Hospitals or Clinics within the Navajo Area Office. As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will play a critical role in providing direct pharmaceutical care to both inpatient and outpatient populations, including patients with chronic disease and those with acute needs. You’ll work as part of a collaborative healthcare team committed to serving Native communities.

🩺 Key Duties
- Conduct outpatient pharmacy clinics, following up with patients and adjusting treatment plans in collaboration with medical staff.
- Evaluate medication regimens for effectiveness, potential interactions, compliance, and adverse effects.
- Educate patients on the correct usage, side effects, and storage of prescribed medications, documenting all counseling provided.
- Deliver advanced, high-risk medication therapy management and consultations for both healthcare providers and patients.
- Provide formal and informal education to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff. Train pharmacy residents, students, and interns.
- Support community health by educating patients and families on disease prevention and medication use.
⚙️ Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. citizen and registered with Selective Service if male and born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background investigation, fingerprinting, and E-Verify employment check.
- May require on-call or standby duty.
- Must comply with Public Law 101-630, including clearance to work with Indian children.
- Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges.
- Required immunizations: Measles, Rubella, and seasonal influenza (or approved exemption).
- A Confidential Financial Disclosure may be required.
- Direct Deposit enrollment is mandatory.
🎓 Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Education: A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Licensure: A current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a U.S. state or territory.
- Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Grade-Level Requirements:
- GS-11: Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D.
- GS-12: In addition to meeting GS-11 requirements, at least one year of professional pharmacy experience is required.
Qualifying experience may include:
- Dispensing and counseling on prescribed medications.
- Evaluating medication therapy outcomes and usage trends.
- Providing drug information to patients and health professionals.
- Planning and monitoring medication programs.
- Managing pharmacy operations in hospital or clinic settings.
📌 If you’re in your final year of pharmacy education and expected to graduate and obtain licensure within 9 months, you may be considered tentatively qualified.
