Department of the Navy – Commander, Navy Installations
Location: Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME

Position Overview:
Join the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) team at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Food Service Worker. This role involves preparing and serving a variety of food items, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and operating as a cashier. You’ll play an essential role in delivering quality food service to military personnel and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation:
    Prepare and assemble a variety of food items, including hot foods, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, salads, side dishes, and beverages according to standardized recipes.
  • Food Handling & Safety:
    Follow HACCP and sanitation guidelines for food preparation, storage, and service. Ensure proper food temperatures and clean/sanitize all equipment.
  • Customer Service:
    Provide courteous service to guests; support teamwork and professionalism in the workplace.
  • Cashiering:
    Operate a computerized cash register, handle transactions, and reconcile cash drawers.
  • Cleaning & Maintenance:
    Maintain cleanliness in food prep areas, dish rooms, and dining spaces. Wash dishes manually or with mechanical equipment, mop floors, and empty trash as required.
  • Stocking & Setup:
    Replenish supplies (e.g., condiments, utensils, trays) and help with setup and breakdown of serving lines and catering functions.
  • Support Services:
    Assist with catering, events, and special meals by preparing food and setting up equipment and supplies.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic food service operations, safety and sanitation procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Ability to follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately.
  • Experience handling food and operating kitchen equipment, including cash registers.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must pass a background check and employment verification (E-Verify).
  • May be subject to drug testing under Executive Order 12564.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit is required within 30 days of hire.
  • May be required to complete a 1-year probationary period.
