Job Description

Department: Department of the Navy
Agency: Commander, Navy Installations
Location: NAS Crane, Crane, Indiana
Organization: CNIC – Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Program

Summary:

This position is part of the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) MWR program under Commander, Navy Installations Command. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the aquatic facilities, including pools and waterfronts. Duties include lifeguarding, enforcing safety protocols, assisting with aquatic training, and supporting daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Lifeguarding Duties (60%):

  • Monitor pool or waterfront activities to prevent accidents and enforce safety rules.
  • Perform water rescues, administer CPR/First Aid, and respond to emergencies.
  • Test and document pool chemical levels; report and correct imbalances as directed.
  • Maintain situational awareness of marine life, water, and weather conditions.

General Support Duties (40%):

  • Conduct aquatic assessments and certifications per DoD/DON/CNIC policy.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness, inspect equipment, and ensure compliance with health standards.
  • Operate and maintain emergency and safety equipment.
  • Provide patron support including orientation, ID checks, and fee collection.
  • Document incidents and notify appropriate personnel during emergencies.

Qualifications:

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with aquatic safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to identify hazards and respond promptly and effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to enforce rules tactfully.
  • Knowledge of MWR facility regulations and cash handling procedures.
  • Competency in testing and adjusting pool chemicals.
  • Proficiency in lifesaving techniques, including CPR and radio communication.

Conditions of Employment:

Education:

No formal education requirement, but certifications related to lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid are expected.
