About the Position
This position is located at Pine Ridge School, part of the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). The Transitional Teacher will serve in a lower elementary classroom, teaching core elementary subjects. This is a full-time, seasonal position with a direct impact on the academic success and personal growth of Native American students.

Key Responsibilities
As a Transitional Teacher (Elementary), under supervision, you will:
- Develop yearly instructional plans and daily lesson plans aligned with educational objectives.
- Deliver instruction using effective, adaptable teaching strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate academic progress using assessments and standardized tests.
- Create a supportive classroom environment promoting student engagement, self-esteem, and positive behavior.
- Maintain discipline and student safety throughout the school day.
- Supervise students during academic and school-related activities.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must undergo a background investigation and obtain a clearance.
- Must enroll in the state’s alternative licensure/certification program within 90 days of hire.
- Must obtain full teacher certification within three contract terms.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
- A safe driving record (past 3 years) is necessary.
Qualifications
You must meet the education and licensure requirements outlined by P.L. 95-561:
Education:
- Level 11: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and enrollment in an alternative teacher licensure program.
- Level 14: Master’s degree and enrollment in an alternative teacher licensure program.

Experience:
Experience is considered for setting pay levels and includes both paid and unpaid roles such as volunteer work (e.g., AmeriCorps, Peace Corps).
