Position Overview

Join the dedicated team at Pine Ridge School, part of the Bureau of Indian Education. We are seeking a passionate and qualified Social Studies Teacher to provide classroom instruction in middle or high school. This role involves teaching specialized Social Studies subjects while fostering student growth, academic achievement, and personal development in a culturally responsive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Social Studies Teacher will:

  • Develop annual instructional outlines and daily lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards.
  • Deliver engaging and differentiated instruction in Social Studies content areas.
  • Use various assessments to evaluate student learning and academic progress.
  • Establish a positive classroom environment promoting discipline, respect, and student self-image.
  • Maintain classroom control and manage behavior except in extreme cases.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day to ensure safety and well-being.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Valid State Teaching Certification in Social Studies (Emergency/provisional certificates may be accepted).
  • Completion of any required state-specific assessments and licensure requirements.

Pay Level Qualifications

  • Level 11: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Level 12–13: Bachelor’s + 15–30 graduate credits
  • Level 14–16: Master’s Degree + additional graduate credits
  • Level 17: Doctorate Degree

Additional Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must pass a background check and maintain clearance
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Subject to a one-academic-year probationary period
  • May require occasional overtime work
  • Driving a government vehicle may be required

  • Classroom instruction abilities
  • Communication skills
  • Classroom management strategies
  • Use of standards-based assessment practices
