Key Responsibilities
As a technical leader, you will:
- Approve and execute software engineering standards, tools, and processes in alignment with Department of Defense and Navy policies.
- Ensure mission effectiveness, maintainability, and interoperability of software systems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in software development, design/architecture, and modern software toolsets (e.g., DevOps, Jira).
- Conduct assessments of software development for functionality, performance, and progress against mission goals.
Basic Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Subject to pre-employment drug testing and ongoing random drug testing.
- Participation in Direct Deposit and E-Verify is mandatory.
- DAWIA Certification may be required depending on the role and level.
- May require travel, including to remote or overseas locations, via military or commercial transport.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Appointment of retired military within 180 days is subject to legal restrictions.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DP-3/GS-9 to GS-11 level, including:
- Expertise in software development, design/architecture, and DevOps toolsets.
- Recommending airworthiness certifications and supporting documentation for flight clearances.
- Evaluating software project performance using technical performance measures (TPMs) and engineering best practices.

Education Requirements
Depending on the occupational series, applicants must meet one of the following:
For 08XX (Engineering) Series:
- A bachelor’s or higher degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program; OR
- Registration as a PE/EIT; OR
- Successful completion of the FE exam; OR
- 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences; OR
- Related scientific degree with 1+ year of professional engineering experience.
For 1550 (Computer Science) Series:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a bachelor’s degree that includes at least 30 semester hours in math, statistics, and computer science (with 15 hours in calculus/statistics/math).
Foreign education must be formally evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
