Salary Range:

  • Architect (GS-0808): $116,816 – $151,863
  • Engineer (GS-0801/0810/0830/0850): $132,039 – $159,048
    Open to: U.S. Citizens – Direct Hire Authority (DHA)

Position Overview

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a senior-level Interdisciplinary Engineer or Architect to manage complex military construction and renovation design projects within the Sacramento District. This Direct Hire position supports the planning, development, budget oversight, and execution of high-impact engineering and architectural design efforts.

Initial duty station: Sacramento, CA — with potential relocation to active construction sites in Reno, NV or Palo Alto, CA within two years.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Senior Design Manager, leading the development and delivery of comprehensive engineering design solutions.
  • Coordinate project resources between in-house teams and Architect-Engineer (A-E) contractors to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Oversee project milestones, budgets, schedules, and design reviews using tools such as DrChecks/PROJNET.
  • Communicate technical design issues and solutions to stakeholders, agency officials, and project delivery teams across the region.
  • Lead/mentor junior engineers and manage contract negotiations, scope development, and performance oversight for A-E contracts.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license in any U.S. state or territory (required).
  • Specialized Experience (GS-13 level): Minimum one year of experience in:
    • Design and planning of new construction or renovation projects.
    • Reviewing technical engineering and architectural documents.
    • Managing project design reviews and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
    • Administering A-E contracts including scoping, budgeting, and evaluation.
    • Leading project communication with stakeholders and technical personnel.

NOTE: Education cannot substitute for experience at this grade level.


Education Requirements

Must meet the Basic Education Requirement for one of the following series:

  • General Engineer (0801)
  • Civil Engineer (0810)
  • Mechanical Engineer (0830)
  • Electrical Engineer (0850)
  • Architect (0808)

Transcripts and license verification are required at time of application. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
