U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Sacramento District
Location: Sacramento, CA (with potential relocation to Reno, NV or Palo Alto, CA)
Division: Engineering Division, Military Design Branch

Position Overview

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Sacramento District, is hiring experienced professionals to serve as Senior Design Managers for high-profile military construction and renovation projects. This role involves managing project planning, technical development, budgeting, and oversight of engineering and architectural designs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design process for major construction and renovation projects.
  • Coordinate resources and activities between government engineers and Architect-Engineer (A-E) firms.
  • Manage project milestones, schedules, and budgets to ensure timely delivery.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure design compliance using systems like DrChecks/PROJNET.
  • Serve as a primary technical advisor to stakeholders, project teams, and senior leadership.
  • Mentor junior staff and guide the work of in-house and contracted design professionals.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license from any U.S. state or territory
  • One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level in:
    • Planning and developing engineering or architectural designs
    • Overseeing design documentation (calculations, drawings, specifications)
    • Administering A-E contracts (scope, estimates, negotiations, reviews)
    • Managing technical communication with stakeholders and leading design teams

Education

Must meet the basic education requirements for one of the following occupational series:

  • General Engineer (0801)
  • Architect (0808)
  • Civil Engineer (0810)
  • Mechanical Engineer (0830)
  • Electrical Engineer (0850)

Job Details

  • Salary:
    • Architect (GS-0808): $116,816 – $151,863
    • Engineer (GS-0801/0810/0830/0850): $132,039 – $159,048
  • Trial/probationary period may be required
  • Financial disclosure (OGE-450) required annually
  • PCS relocation and incentives may be authorized
  • Part of the Engineers & Scientists (Construction) Career Field
  • Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement
