Position Overview
As an Avionics Systems Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert supporting naval aviation programs, particularly in unmanned systems. You will represent the command and its stakeholders in managing avionics systems development and integration efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned avionics systems.
- Provide subject matter expertise in support of airworthiness certification and engineering processes.
- Conduct trade-off studies, system analyses, and investigations involving avionics software and hardware.
- Develop system specifications, statements of work, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and technical documentation.
- Support system upgrades, hardware/software compatibility assessments, and FAA/DoD standards development.
- Lead or collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams for complex system integration tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship
- Eligible for federal employment
- Participation in the direct deposit program
- Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and be subject to random drug testing
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service
Specialized Experience (GS-11/12 equivalent):
You must have one year of specialized experience that includes:
- Leading the development, acquisition, and integration of complex avionics systems for unmanned naval platforms.
- Conducting technical analyses (e.g., analysis of alternatives, system requirements, collision avoidance systems).
- Experience with transponders, radar systems, and sensor integration.
- Working with cross-functional teams and contributing to FAA standards or industry committees.
Educational Requirements
You must meet the basic education requirements for one of the following series:
- 0854 (Computer Engineering) / 0855 (Electronics Engineering): ABET-accredited engineering degree or equivalent as described by OPM.
- 1310 (Physics): Bachelor’s or equivalent with 24 semester hours in physics.
- 1520 (Mathematics): Major in mathematics or 24 semester hours in math including calculus and four advanced math courses.
- 1550 (Computer Science): Degree in computer science or a degree with 30 semester hours in a mix of computer science, mathematics, and statistics (15 of which must include math/stat courses including calculus).
