HR Adviser – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
HR Adviser (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)
We have an exciting opportunity for an HR Adviser to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Absence Management, Wellbeing, and Family-Friendly policies.
HR Adviser Purpose of the Role
As an HR Adviser, you will deliver a professional, proactive, and expert HR advisory service to managers at all levels across the Iceland business. The focus of your role will be to support the effective management of colleague absence and wellbeing. You will provide guidance on long-term and short-term absence, flexible working, wellbeing, and all family-friendly policies and procedures, ensuring optimal outcomes for both the business and our colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Actively participate in the HR team, developing strong working relationships with wider stakeholders across the business. - Case Management
Manage a portfolio of cases, ensuring that activities are scheduled and prioritized based on the specific needs of each case and any applicable deadlines or timescales. - Guidance and Advice
Provide clear, pragmatic advice and guidance to managers on absence and wellbeing matters, in line with Iceland’s HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensure that legal and regulatory requirements are always met. - Autonomous Working and Initiative
Work independently, taking ownership of delegated work areas. Seek advice from senior colleagues when necessary and use your initiative to drive results. - Coaching and Development
Coach managers in effective people management practices, including communication, decision-making, fairness, consistency, and the application of policies. - Document Preparation and Review
Review and prepare letters and documents for formal meetings, providing feedback to managers where needed. - Accurate Case Management and Reporting
Ensure all case management details are accurately recorded in the Case Management System. Proactively manage cases through to conclusion and ensure that personnel databases are up-to-date. - Consistency and Collaboration
Work closely with fellow HR Advisers to ensure a consistent approach to case management and the application of precedents across the team. - Compliance and SLA Achievement
Ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met or exceeded. Actively manage all case-related issues and provide support to line managers where necessary. - Additional Responsibilities
Take on other reasonable duties as requested by the HR team or senior colleagues.

- Accurate Diary and Case Management
Maintain an organized and effective diary to manage workloads and deadlines. - Compliance with HR Policies and Legislation
Ensure all activities are compliant with HR policies, processes, and legal requirements. - Risk Management and Analysis
Conduct risk assessments and ensure that issues are resolved in a timely and legally compliant manner. - SLA Compliance
Consistently meet or exceed the defined SLAs for case resolution. - Effective Case Management
Ensure cases are managed effectively, with timely and accurate documentation.

Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with various stakeholders, tailoring communication effectively based on the audience. - Conflict Resolution
Strong conflict management skills, with the ability to address difficult situations professionally and tactfully. - Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities
Ability to analyze complex issues and provide practical, creative, and effective solutions. - Time Management and Prioritization
Proven ability to prioritize workloads effectively, particularly when under pressure. - Technology Proficiency
Comfortable using various technology platforms and telephony systems to support HR processes. - Coaching and Mentoring
Strong coaching skills, with the ability to support and guide managers in people management. - Confidentiality
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Qualifications and Experience
- HR Case Management Experience
Proven experience in managing a range of HR cases, with a deep understanding of the processes involved. - Up-to-Date Knowledge of UK Employment Law
Comprehensive, up-to-date working knowledge of UK employment law, and its implications for employers. - Confident Communication
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels. Can hold your own and communicate effectively in challenging situations. - Stakeholder Engagement
Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals. - CIPD Qualification
Ideally CIPD qualified (Level 5), or equivalent experience. - Pragmatic Approach to HR Solutions
Experience applying a commercial and practical approach to managing HR risk-based challenges. - Flexibility and Adaptability
Ability to work flexibly and adapt quickly in an agile environment to meet deadlines and respond to feedback constructively. - Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
