Position Summary:

The General Engineer will support the design, construction, maintenance, and improvement of healthcare and administrative facilities. This includes managing engineering operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical guidance within the assigned service unit or area office.


Key Duties:

  • Provide technical guidance for maintenance, operation, and modification of facilities.
  • Oversee design and construction activities, including site development, repairs, improvements, and equipment installation.
  • Respond to work orders, manage schedules, assign tasks, estimate labor/resources, and maintain project records.
  • Maintain and organize engineering documentation (blueprints, O&M manuals, specs, etc.).

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered.
  • Trial Period: May be required to serve a 1–2 year probationary period depending on appointment type.
  • Public Law 101-630: Position requires background clearance due to involvement with Indian children.
  • Health Requirements (Lame Deer location only):
    • Proof of measles, rubella, and influenza immunizations
    • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
Must meet OPM’s educational standards for professional engineering positions:
OPM Engineering Qualification Standards (0800 series)

GS-11 Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as:
    • Applying engineering principles to facilities management
    • Recommending improvements to engineering operations
    • Providing technical guidance related to maintenance and operations
      OR
  • Three years of progressively advanced graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Time-In-Grade: Required for current federal employees applying through merit promotion.


Education:

Foreign education must include a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency for credit consideration.
