Position Overview
NAVFAC is seeking qualified General Engineers to manage multi-disciplinary projects involving Navy weight handling equipment (WHE), including cranes. This position plays a critical role in ensuring technical excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance across Navy engineering projects. Location will be determined upon selection.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Develop original design concepts and technical documentation aligned with Navy crane and WHE standards.
- Ensure integration and compliance with the Crane Reliability, Improvement, and Safety Program (CRISP).
- Serve as a technical expert and advisor to Navy personnel.
- Oversee crane configuration management to ensure alignment with Navy standards.
- Travel may be required to CONUS and OCONUS sites, including isolated locations.
Qualifications
Selective Placement Factor:
- Mandatory: Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state, D.C., Guam, or Puerto Rico (submit with application).
Specialized Experience:
One year of experience at the GS-12 level (or equivalent) that includes:
- Engineering design and analysis of weight handling equipment.
- Leading WHE projects from planning through execution.
- Reading/interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Independent project scheduling and deadline management.
- Preparing and delivering technical reports and presentations.
Education Requirements:
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- A degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, OR
- Current registration as an EI/EIT or PE, OR
- Successful completion of the FE exam, OR
- 60 semester hours in specified engineering and physical science courses, OR
- A bachelor’s degree in a closely related field (e.g., physics, math) plus one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must pass E-Verify and be suitable for federal employment.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel.
- Security clearance (interim and/or final) required.
- Must obtain and maintain DAWIA certification.
- Use of PPE is required (e.g., safety shoes, goggles).
- Government credit card use is required for travel.
