Position Overview
As a Test Lead Engineer/Scientist, you will join a large-scale Agile software development team within the Strategic and Computing Systems Department. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing comprehensive software testing strategies to ensure the quality and performance of mission-critical applications used by the U.S. Navy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop test strategies, plans, and detailed test cases.
- Conduct test execution, analysis, and reporting.
- Lead and promote Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
- Build and maintain a robust automated test suite across multiple testing levels (unit, system, integration, end-to-end, performance, security, etc.).
- Track and report key test performance indicators (KPIs) such as test coverage, defect density, execution rates, automation rates, and more.
- Evaluate test traceability and continuously improve testing processes.
Basic Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be eligible for a Secret security clearance.
- Subject to Selective Service registration (for males born after 12/31/1959).
- Must pass E-Verify employment verification.
- Must be suitable for federal employment.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically or internationally, including to remote or isolated locations.
Qualifications
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled under one of the following series based on your background:
- General Engineer (0801)
- Mechanical Engineer (0830)
- Electrical Engineer (0850)
- Computer Engineer (0854)
- Electronics Engineer (0855)
- Physical Scientist (1301)
- Operations Research Analyst (1515)
- Mathematician (1520)
- Computer Scientist (1550)
Specialized Experience (GS-12/13 equivalent):
At least one year of experience as a professional engineer or scientist performing software test activities. Examples include:
- Creating test strategies and detailed test plans.
- Performing analysis of testing tools and implementing automated test frameworks.
- Writing and managing automated test scripts using tools like JUnit, Jest, JaCoCo, Selenium, JMeter, and Burp Suite.
- Using requirement traceability and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, X-Ray).
Education Requirements
You must meet Office of Personnel Management (OPM) education standards for the applicable series. This typically requires a degree in engineering, physical science, mathematics, operations research, or computer science, with coursework aligned to the occupational standards.
