Duties
As a Systems Engineer with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, you will work in either the Strategic Systems Analysis and Assurance Division (A10) or the Strategic Systems Design and Implementation Division (A20). Your responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with teams to develop future requirements and system/software architectures for weapon control system modernization
- Leading systems engineering analyses and developing models using SysML/UML, Simulink, and mathematical tools
- Contributing to or leading Digital Engineering initiatives, trade studies, and requirements refinement for fire control products
- Analyzing, recommending, and planning new system/software developments or modifications
- Leading systems engineering efforts throughout various acquisition phases
- Developing design trade studies, documenting decisions, and problem-solving to ensure rigorous development paths
- Coordinating across multiple functions and organizations to clarify tasks and deliver solutions
- Participating in daily stand-ups, program reviews, and sponsor-level meetings
Requirements

- May require travel domestically and internationally, including remote locations
Qualifications
This interdisciplinary position may be filled by candidates from various occupational series such as Engineering (0801, 0830, 0850), Physical Science (1301), Physics (1310), Operations Research (1515), Mathematics (1520), or Computer Science (1550).
To qualify at the ND-4 level:
- Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to ND-3 (GS-9 to GS-11 level) demonstrating systems engineering principles in analysis, design, and management of engineering tasks and programs.
To qualify at the ND-3 level:
- Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to ND-2 (GS-5 to GS-8 level) with basic systems engineering skills applied to developmental assignments.
Education may substitute for experience at the ND-3 level (e.g., master’s degree or equivalent graduate education). There are no education substitutions for ND-4 level.
Education requirements vary by occupational series — degrees in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, or related fields with relevant coursework are required. Applicants must submit transcripts.
