Summary – Electronics Engineer (Various Grades: GS-05 to GS-12)

Position Overview

As an Electronics Engineer, you will support the operational community by providing engineering services for avionics and aircraft weapon systems. Responsibilities increase with grade level and include system upgrades, airworthiness assessments, mishap investigations, configuration management, and risk mitigation.


Key Duties

  • Monitor and conduct technical and economic analysis related to avionics and support systems.
  • Resolve complex electronics engineering problems and recommend technical solutions.
  • Support system upgrades, modifications, and sustainment initiatives.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and correspondence for leadership, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

General Requirements for All Grades

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Must meet the basic education requirements (see below)
  • Subject to DAWIA certification (Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (CONUS/OCONUS)

Grade-Specific Experience Requirements

GS-05:

  • Meet the basic education requirements (no additional experience required).

GS-07:

  • One year of experience at the GS-05 level that includes:
    1. Applying basic engineering principles
    2. Assisting in technical documentation
    3. Collaborating to sustain weapons and support systems

GS-09:

  • One year of experience at the GS-07 level that includes:
    1. Applying engineering practices to aircraft systems
    2. Researching and recommending aircraft modifications
    3. Developing sustainment strategies for system reliability and safety

GS-11:

  • One year of experience at the GS-09 level that includes:
    1. Engineering support for aircraft system design and overhaul
    2. Applying logistics and engineering policy
    3. Drafting engineering documents and proposals

GS-12:

  • One year of experience at the GS-11 level that includes:
    1. Supporting acquisition, maintenance, and modification of aircraft systems
    2. Providing technical analysis and economic assessment to leadership
    3. Developing engineering changes and maintenance directives

Must meet one of the following:
