This position is part of the Combat Systems Engineering Division within SUPSHIP Gulf Coast’s Engineering Department. The Electronics Engineer serves as a technical expert in the integration, testing, and oversight of combat and weapon systems on Navy ships under construction or modernization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the technical authority for combat systems, ensuring adherence to NAVSEA guidance and SUPSHIP directives.
- Oversee the design, integration, installation, and testing of shipboard combat systems, including sensors and C4ISR equipment.
- Provide expert engineering support and coordination across government, contractor, and cross-functional teams.
- Review and approve design documents, vendor drawings, test plans, technical manuals, and engineering change proposals for compliance and quality.
- Participate in dockside and at-sea trials, providing guidance and troubleshooting expertise.
- Evaluate and monitor contractor configuration management systems, including waivers and deviations.
- Represent the Navy in design reviews, audits, and other engineering forums.
Qualifications:
For GS-13 Level:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 in the federal service.
- Experience must demonstrate professional engineering expertise in the design, integration, testing, or oversight of ship combat or weapon systems.
For GS-12 Level:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in the federal service.
- Experience should reflect the ability to provide technical advice and resolve problems related to shipboard combat or weapon system design and testing.
Basic Education Requirement (OPM 0855 Series):
Must meet at least one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited program; OR
- Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or passed the FE exam; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and professional engineering experience (see full IOR).

Conditions of Employment:
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- May require pre-employment physical and travel (including CONUS/OCONUS).
