Primary Duties

As an Electrical Engineer with the Naval Sea Systems Command, your responsibilities may include:

  • Resolving technical issues related to shipboard electrical systems.
  • Reviewing contractor and vendor designs for compliance with specifications.
  • Leading or participating in technical conferences on design problems.
  • Acting as an engineering consultant to program managers and ship supervisors.
  • Addressing construction deficiencies and supporting trial teams (e.g., INSURV).
  • Reviewing contract change proposals from a technical perspective.
  • Representing NAVSEA in new ship design, production, and system testing.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
Must meet one of the following (in accordance with OPM standards):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • OR equivalent education/experience combination (e.g., FE exam, PE license)

Specialized Experience:

GS-13 Level:
At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level involving:

  • Engineering solutions for marine electrical, control, communication, or navigation systems in shipbuilding or modernization projects.

GS-12 Level:
At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level involving:

  • Analysis and resolution of marine electrical system design issues for new construction or modernization.

Volunteer and unpaid work may count toward experience if relevant.


Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Security clearance (interim/final) required prior to appointment.
  • Travel (CONUS/OCONUS) may be required, including to remote locations.
  • Must register for Selective Service (if male, born after 12/31/59).
  • Subject to E-Verify employment verification.

  • Position may be filled using the DoD Direct Hire Authority.
  • Several vacancies may be filled.
  • Veteran’s preference does not apply under this authority.
  • Relocation, recruitment, or student loan repayment incentives may be offered.
  • Applicants may be hired at GS-12 with promotion potential to GS-13 (promotion not guaranteed).
