Summary

This vacancy will remain open until filled, with the first cut-off date on February 24, 2025. Additional applications will be reviewed as needed.

The Dietitian (Clinical) position involves conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments, developing and adjusting medical nutrition therapy (MNT), coordinating care with healthcare teams, educating patients, ensuring accurate documentation, using data to drive outcome improvements, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and enhancing patient dining experiences.

Position Levels & Duties

GS-11 (Full Performance Level):

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and physical exams for complex cases.
  • Lead and monitor MNT interventions, modify plans as needed.
  • Use data to develop quality improvement measures and lead new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams, veterans, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies (e.g., The Joint Commission).
  • Provide individualized and group nutrition education using virtual care technologies.
  • Work with Food Operations to improve Veteran dining and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in interdisciplinary teams.

GS-09 (Developmental Level):

  • Perform nutrition assessments and exams to identify malnutrition risks.
  • Develop and adjust MNT plans under general supervision.
  • Coordinate nutritional care and support strategies with healthcare teams.
  • Document care using approved formats and systems.
  • Provide nutrition education and support to Veterans.
  • Collaborate with Food Operations to enhance dining experiences.

GS-07 (Entry-Level Developmental):

  • Conduct nutrition assessments for lower acuity patients.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor basic MNT plans.
  • Calculate nutrient requirements and manage diet restrictions.
  • Identify nutritional support needs and communicate with care teams.
  • Document care accurately and participate in team meetings.
  • Support Food Operations in improving patient dining satisfaction.

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Telework available on an ad-hoc basis per agency policy
  • Not a virtual position
  • No relocation or recruitment incentives authorized
  • No Permanent Change of Station (PCS) authorized

Basic Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required for GS-11 level and above
  • Non-credentialed dietitians may be appointed at GS-07 or GS-09 levels under limited conditions and must obtain RDN credential within one year
  • Completion of an ACEND® accredited experiential or supervised practice program
  • Degrees must be from accredited institutions or have appropriate foreign equivalency evaluations

Preferred Experience

  • 1-3 years as a clinical dietitian
  • Experience with the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) model
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary team settings
