Summary

This position offers an advanced internship opportunity to receive comprehensive on-the-job training in Data Science within the U.S. Air Force. As part of the formal PALACE Acquire (PAQ) program, you will complete developmental assignments and training designed to build your skills and prepare you for a professional data science career.

The role is focused on applying foundational data science methods and analytical techniques through practical project work and mentorship by experienced analysts.


Who May Apply

  • The Public: U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, or individuals who owe allegiance to the U.S.
  • Students: Currently enrolled in accredited high school, college, or graduate programs.
  • Recent Graduates: Individuals who completed a qualifying degree or certificate program within the last 2 years (or 6 years for eligible veterans).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Developmental Assignments:
    Support projects by performing specific tasks and phases of larger assignments under guidance. Use established data science procedures to gather and analyze information, applying scientific methods and problem-solving techniques.
  2. Project Support:
    Independently handle portions of studies or projects by applying learned methods. Identify and adapt guidelines for new situations, assisting senior data scientists in resolving complex problems.
  3. Special Initiatives:
    Participate in special research tasks and projects to deepen knowledge of data science techniques. Assist with preparing reports and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations.
  4. Documentation:
    Draft and prepare correspondence, reports, newsletters, and responses to routine inquiries, ensuring clear and accurate communication.

Requirements and Conditions

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Males must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Position may require a security clearance, potentially up to Top Secret.
  • Relocation (PCS) may be authorized and will be paid according to regulations. Mobility agreement required.
  • Position subject to random drug testing.
  • One-year probationary period applies.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.95 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Situational telework possible depending on unit needs.
  • Occasional travel by military or commercial aircraft may be required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field appropriate to the position.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Basic understanding of data science principles and scientific methods.
    • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply data science rules.
    • Skill in performing data analysis and preparing reports.
    • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and teamwork abilities.
